Apparently Disk 0 is having a bad day (or a split personality)
Two partitions on Disk 0 both show as drive letter “D:”
Apparently this happens when trying to extend a partition. Props to Cory for this screen shot.

I’ve always been a big fan of a) The Adventures of Pete and Pete show (I own all the DVDs) and b) funny Microsoft videos. This morning I came across a video on the Microsoft OEM Partner Center that was pretty hilarious. And to top it off, one of the actors in the video reminded me of “Artie the Strongest Man in the World” from Pete and Pete. Behold:
Microsoft “Office With Every PC” Video
Artie – The Strongest Man in the World
Yes, I know it’s not really Artie, but it’s still fun to imagine. 🙂
If you’d like to check out the video, you’ll need a Microsoft Partner ID to access the OEM Partner Center website, and Silverlight installed on your PC. Or, you can show up at the KYSBSUG meeting tonight and I’ll play it there.
Tonight we’re upgrading NGLB to the newest version of WordPress (2.6.2). Please excuse any duplicate posts or small explosions. 🙂
So far WordPress has been rock-solid and has kept the comment spammers at bay, and I don’t anticipate any blood on the floor with this upgrade. But hey, it could happen.
See you on the other side. 🙂
UPDATE:
Well, the update failed and I completely destroyed the website. Fortunately I had a backup, but it was touch and go there for a bit. I’ll do some research and see where it failed. But, for the time being, we’re back in action using the old tech.

Last night I finally bit the bullet and wiped my corporate box and installed Windows Vista 64-bit. I am determined to march forward no matter what.
Initial impression of the 64-bit OS?: SMOKING FAST
The only driver issue was for my Plantronics DSP 500 USB headset, and that wasn’t even a driver issue really, it was just a configuration issue. So far everything is working great, and I’ve got a VPC of XP waiting on a second drive in case I run into any programs that aren’t 64-bit compatible.
The next OS decision it whether or not I should flatten my laptop and run Windows Server 2008 as a workstation OS.
This weekend the SBS Diva herself, Susan Bradley, received the “SBSer of the Year” award for 2008 from SMB Nation. Congrats Bitzie and thanks for the many years of hard work! 🙂
For five days this week I’m in Issaquah, Washington (southeast of Seattle) at the Microsoft Sammamish campus for the special SBS 2008 training that Microsoft arranged for the SBS-MVPs. So far the training has been absolutely fantastic. This is, by far, the most in-depth and valuable software training I’ve ever received, and I am tremendously thankful for the opportunity to be here! I just can’t thank Kevin Beares and his team enough for putting this event together, and our instructor, John Bay, knows this product with a depth I’ve never seen first-hand before. I’ve been using SBS since version 4.0, and it’s awesome to be able to turn the new 2008 version inside out and see what makes it tick.
In addition to the phenomenal training, another huge benefit of being here in person is the opportunity to network with the Microsoft SBS product team and other SBS-MVPs from around the world. It’s impossible to articulate just how much experience and passion these folks have for the SBS product and the community that uses and supports it. At every opportunity you’ll see folks sharing information, discussing best practices, giving feedback, and debating (sometimes fervently) the issues in the community and the product itself.
On Tuesday night Kevin Beares took the MVPs and some Microsoft folks out to dinner at Pogacha (a restaurant I *highly* recommend). As always, I feel like the least qualified person to be in the same room, but I’m thrilled at the opportunity to be there and share ideas and experiences. Unfortunately, not everyone could make it to the training event, for various reasons. But for those of you have had a question answered in the SBS newsgroups, this picture of the dinner attendees should help you put a name with the face.

Also here, but not pictured…
To all those with missing info, I’ll fill it in as soon as I can confirm info – I’m horrible with remembering names 🙂 If you know any of the missing info above, please feel free to post it in the comments. And if I missed anyone who’s here, please comment that too.
Thanks Microsoft for a truly awesome and valuable event!
Two classrooms full of Microsoft MVPs, all working on an SBS 2003 to SBS 2008 migrations on identical equipment (Dell Optiplex servers with Core 2 Quad processors w/ 8 GB of RAM). Lots of talking, lots of flexing, lots of reading.
Who won?
Team “Tim & Vlad”. Proof, baby:
I’m in Seattle this week for some SBS 2008 training and for SMB Nation, and I just checked into my hotel in Issaquah. As usual, I popped onto Microsoft Virtual Earth to see what’s around here. Imagine my surprise when I saw this swimming pool:
Yep, the swimming pool is in the shape of a fish, and the baby pool is a baby fish, of course this and other pools have the best hayward pool pump to be able to stay clean. Pretty cute for a Holiday Inn!
Thanks everyone who attended the KYSBSUG presentation on modding your wireless router with the DD-WRT firmware!
Here are the show notes from tonight. P.S. Don’t forget to reset your wired NIC TCP/IP settings back to automatic after you’re done flashing your router. 🙂
If I don’t see you at SMB Nation in Seattle next week, I’ll see you at the Oct KYSBSUG meeting (tentative date Wed Oct 15, 2008).
